Lake Vermilion is home to more than 18 pairs of breeding bald eagles, 246 loons with 29 chicks (per 2014 survey), and 24-25 breeding pairs of osprey. Lake Vermilion is located at a transition zone between the northern temperate and boreal forests. An attentive birder can see –and hear– numerous bird species in the Lake Vermilion vicinity.
